After a solid winter training hardball camp run by Jamie and Kirk at Reeds school, expectations were high leading into the U9’s 1st hardball season.
As always with sport, thing don’t always go to plan as the team were beaten quite convincingly in their first match at home against Esher. The coaches and team had a good understanding of what we needed to do better and set about rebuilding our challenge for the league.
With some very strong performances over the next few weeks the Avengers ended up winning their next 5 games on the trot setting up a top of the table clash with Teddington CC. Putting our strongest team out of the season the boys were excited about the game and our chances.
Teddington however had different ideas and after winning the toss they scored 78 runs in their 1st 8 overs, on target for a huge score of around 350!. Then the game turned. The Avengers, whose heads and determination never dropped managed to get back on top with some amazing runs outs and tight bowling restricting Teddington to 281. The boys knocked the runs off with ease scoring 298.
The writing was almost on the wall with 2 matches to go against teams towards the bottom of the table. The Avengers won both matches ended up with a winning streak of 8 straight games with just the one loss. What a run, what a team and what a club. Well done to everyone involved from the kids, coaches and parents that make this all possible! Avengers Assemble!!
